When CSA Brig Gen Joseph O Shelby went to Mexico to offer the services of his undefeated "Iron Brigade", several San Antonio KGC castle members were among his troops. Shelby's adjutant, John Newman Edwards, became the editor of THE KANSAS CITY TIMES, writing articles about he heroic activities of the James-Younger Gang.
During a court trial of Frank James, Shelby testified on behalf of James as a character witness.

KXM very interesting stories. It sounds like most of the information to you is oral traditions. There is some truth in there somewhere. Most have no idea that their relative was a member. Sounds as if you have a colorful family.

While your family was one one side of the law my wife's family was on the other side. They served in the Dallas and Denton county sheriff's department. One of the wife's uncles was a assistant fire chief of the city of Dallas. They most likely knew one another back in the day.

The time frame I was talking about was back in the 1870. There wasn't much out beyond Ft.Worth. El Paso the next stop? Cattle drives headed north didn't start till 1866/67. The Ft. Worth stock yard didn't get rail service until 1876. So call it northeast at that time it was north Texas. Today we in deep east Texas call it central Texas. It's a regional thing. Anything west of Tyler is central Texas.
