I dug this out of the trash along with a whole bunch of other interesting Pre-WWII documents. It is a scrapbook homework assignment from 1936 in which the young student Pulcini Sonlone was tasked with gathering information about different European countries.

Interesting is the portrayal of the rise of Hitler in Pre-WWII Germany and how the feeling of an approaching war was already apparent. In a section of the book detailing Sweden it is noted that Sweden is selling Nazi Germany alot of armament materials. Most interesting of all the section on Great Britain details how the government has erected 'an air net of steel' to 'protect London from air-raids in the next war', a very cryptic prediction made a whole three years before WWII started and four years before Germany actually began air raids against Great Britain.

Germany is portrayed as a hard working and beautiful country, no war-time anti-German propaganda here:

Adolf Hitler is described as 'Handsome Adolf'and compared to a Roman emperor:

Hitler youth and German army training and some information about Norway and Sweden:

Some information about Stalin's Soviet Union:

There is alot more information in this book than what is presented here, but these were the most interesting pages.

Pulcini Sonlone got a B+ for this assignment, but he gets an A+ in my eyes for keeping his old schoolwork for over 80 years!!

That's an incredible find. I didn't know that about Sweden either. A lot of this page sounds eerily familiar... ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1507691737.334642.jpg

I looked at the pages again after I woke up. That entire scrapbook should be put online. Depending on how much old he was in '36, he might have fought in WWII. Might never know, but its obviously possible.

Fascinating! Thanks for sharing this. It's amazing how much insight a school boy had at the time-some of what he wrote was very prophetic.

Very interesting when the past comes to light again after so many years.

The more things (name) change, the more they remain the same thing.

Excellent save,, that is probably a museum worthy document. When I last visited New Orleans, I went to the WWII Museum. I'm sure they would be interested in a document like that.
Congrats on the save.
