Hey all, I had a thread earlier today where I wasn't able to identify one of the finds.
I've now identified it to be a king Charles the 1st trade weight. King charles reigned from 1625-1649!
This is now my oldest relic, and I'm super happy to have it. Two weeks ago or so, I found my oldest to date relic, a 1620-1680 trapezoidal shoe buckle. I can't believe I've already found something older and in my opinion, cooler. I'm super lucky and extremely happy. If you don't see anymore posts from me, I had a heart attack!
Any other info about trade weights is appreciated.
I'm super stoked to have found it and this beauty is going right into my shadow box.

Hope you all enjoy and Goodluck and happy hunting,
Zach

Excellent find, and it's a looker. Whether it's a C1 or C2 it's very early, and the tender it was used to weigh could have allowed it to be used many many years after. I have not found a trade weight that early, and a 17th C. weight is something toward the top of my list.

Congrats

I've finally got a response back, short but to the point. It is indeed a Charles the first trade weight, and a "very fine" example. As for the larger possible weight...his best guess is it is indeed another weight but without closely examining it, he couldn't tell for sure.
I was provided instructions on how to carefully and safely clean it to see if I can make out any markings. I've not done so yet but I did look closer and at more examples of lead weights.
I think I see a crown so far. If anything else turns up and I can properly ID the lead weight, I will let you all know.
Thanks again,
Zach

Great info Zach. That's a rare early site....the kind I stay up late at night searching for. I can dig 1700s stuff all day here but the 1600s stuff is very special to me
