Regarding Texas and Mexico, your version is at odds with the historical record.

You wrote "It was legal in all of the United States for seventy years, why do you keep this denying this, Old Bookaroo?"

You can't back up your post with facts so you revert to childish insults.
The Constitution is the basis of ALL law in the United States. Do you agree with that statement?
"Despite the Freedoms...reserved in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, slavery was not only tolerated in the Constitution, but it was codified".
As for facts:
http:Constitutional Topic: Slavery - The U.S. Constitution Online - USConstitution.net
Would you prefer the word "tolerated" for 70 years as a tacit understanding of legality?

For some reason you are incapable of recognizing simple facts. Prior to the Civil War there were states were slavery was legal and states where it was not. Many states prohibited slavery within their borders from the time they were admitted to the Union.

I gave you two specific examples - but you elect to ignore them.

The Kansas-Nebraska controversy was over precisely that issue - would new states be free or slave?

It's sad that you continue to attempt to defend a statement that is factually incorrect.

Good luck to all,

For some reason you are incapable of reading and comprehending the information in the above posted link.
"slavery was not only tolerated in the Constitution, but it was codified".
Once again, a question you will ignore:
Is the Constitution the basis of all laws in America, but the 10th Amendment give certain rights to the individual states?
A simple yes or no will suffice.

I am a supporter of the rights of the people, the rights of the Federal government and the rights of the states.

Amendment X Rights Reserved to States or People. The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

Not one of the three is more or less important than the other two.

Good luck to all,

The Constitution of the United States does not grant rights to the people, the Federal government, or the states. It defines and separates the rights we all have as human beings - including the rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Sadly, when the states and then the Federal government were formed the vicious evil of slavery was present and had to be dealt with. I do find it odd for someone to claim the Constitution "codified" slavery when that word does not appear anywhere in the document.

You can continue to ignore the facts. This is, after all, America. But you can't change history. You are limited to either understanding it or not.

Good luck to all,

You do know West Virginia was admitted as a slave state, two years after the so called war to end slavery began

I don't see where your comment relates to any of the previous topics. West Virginia was formed from Virginia, not from new territory.

The Civil War didn't start to end slavery. Happily, by April 1865 slavery was gone South and North. Read April 1865 by Jay Winik. It's first-rate.

No, it was December 1865 before slavery was gone, six months after the war was over.

Read the book. Slavery died when the Southern states enlisted slaves to fight in the army.

It was a quote from the provided link that is obvious that you hadn't read in your unbridled rush to post your very contrary emotional opinion.

You are aware that Benjamin Franklin had slaves, as well as Jefferson and Washington, and many freeborn men of color also had slaves and fought for the Confederacy, like the RICHMOND HOWITZERS.

It is good to see that your duel fight over the Civil War has railroaded this thread about "Knight's Gold....5000 coins. Nice going. Why don't you find a thread that relates to your difference and carry it over there?

So it is your suggestion when statements are posted that are alternative facts they should simply be ignored?

You didn't answer the question. It is my understanding the purpose of the Forums is to share information. When someone posts a comment that is wrong - you suggest we not comment on it? Is that it?

Whether it's "bickering" appears to depend entirely on one's point of view. Nothing more.

Good luck to all,
