chukers, is that a silver or clad quarter? If it is a clad quarter then obviously chemical action in the ground dissolved the top layer of nickel off.. Very interesting.

1700's King George III half penny. So worn, even the edges are worn down...worn right past the date, unfortunately.

I am assuming its a clad quarter with all the top layer removed... no idea how it got that way... its is neat

The silver quarter next to it is just for comparison

looking just like that, galvanic reaction between nickel & copper I think.
I don't have one to show, I use them at the tollbooths

Found this undated, counterstamped "v" half reale about 10 years ago. It's one of my favorites because I found it very deep at a church site in PA maybe 20 feet from a historical marker recognizing George Washington's speech he gave there in the 1780s. There's that slim chance this fell out of George's pocket...

Here's mine:

Key Date, 1885 "V" Nickel :sad10:

An olive oil soak cleaned up the all the dark parts and now it's all one tone.

If you look real close you can see the 1774 at the 6 o'clock position on the coin. It's a Spanish half Reale. It was found here in central Florida by a buddy of mine at a Seminole Indian War fort site in Polk county. This is one of the most worn identifiable coins I've seen.

Found in central FL by a friend. Funny thing about this coin is that it should have been trashed like all of the other coins pulled from this construction site. The patina really struck me as being quite beautiful so I thought I would share.
