Well after reading a posting and looking at the results of screenings I got the urge to do the same. Since the big rains over the weekend made the home projects too wet I decided that I'd better pay some attention to that dump on the waters edge along the property to get some more trash recovered. So armed with detector, screen, scratchers, shovel, and return trips for mudder boots. I thought try digging a test pit or two, WRONG! roots are the problem and not wanting to do the walk back for the forth time to the shop I worked around some of them. Too wet to screen, and too muddy to get into the dump area with any amount gusto so it was a scratch and pull affair. Here's the pay off for a few hours of mudding in the slop and tree root fighting.

Some type of foot petal arm and a small steel shoe last. Everything in the slop seems to be within 1 1/2ft of the surface, but it's no great as standing too long in one spot I would be sinking into the mud.

On the dryer side of the dump it was just roots, but the finds are getting older it seemed as I unearthed an old black blob top, crock top, and it seemed there was a nice throwing rock on top of each layer of glass and pottery

Did recover my new expresso coffee cup, here's a picture of it sitting on a quarter. It's my keeper of the day made it all worth while.

The grouping of finds that I brought back in the pouch, Fowler's Extract bottle, a plain bottle applied neck/lip, shoe last, 57 Snider casing with a wood insert:icon_scratch: a little porcelain knob end, another mechanical arm with some brass, a brass barrel tap maybe, clock frame?

Those are some interesting finds buddy! :occasion14:
I love the old bottles, I bet they cleaned up nicely too!

So that espresso cup is new eh, it looks old to me... of course if the bottle is marked 'Made in China', then you know it's gotta be new! :laughing7:

Thanks DaveI would hazard a guess that the little cup is early 1900's going on the styling of the handle. The bottles are 1890 type so there's some age to the dump.
