Olive oil can be your friend. I remember putting this in to soak but it's been soaking for about a month, (maybe two ).

It was in TERRIBLE condition when it went in so the oil didn't hurt it any. But, I couldn't see ANYTHING on it when I put it in, much different now.

No intrinsic value but VERY interesting to me. LOL

If I'm not mistaken it was a coin given out by a concession stand at the Centennial Anniversary in Philadelphia.

Of course, I've been wrong before.

Looks like an advertising token. I can see "K KNOPPEL" and a street address along the bottom. I'm sure you can read a lot more in person. Looks like it's starting to flake apart. You may want to gently clean it with a toothbrush to remove the remaining dirt and then seal it. Nice find!

See the updated pic. Yep, it was flaking apart when I found it, just a lot dirtier. How might I seal this?

Having been soaked in olive oil for an extended period of time, and as porous as that coin is, the chances of having any sealer adhere to it isn't very good. I think I would go to the hardware store or a paint department and pick up a can of Penetrol and soak it in that for a while, wipe of the excess, and then set it on some thumbtack points and let it cure. Penetrol serves as a good sealant.

after soaking in olive oil, do u remove all traces of oil from the coin?, not tryin to be dumb but im kinda new to workin with badly corroded coins
