This thread is for coins you find in, on, under, or around coin handling machines such as CoinStar, Coinmaster, auto-sorting machines in banks, payphones, and vending machines. Please add your story!)

At the supermarket again. Habitually stopped by the Coinstar machine, and stooped to pick up a dime on the floor. That's when I noticed that the reject tray was full of dimes. Visions of silver dimes filled my head! I looked around to see if someone had just walked away from the machine, but there was no sign that anyone had been using it in the last few minutes, so I scooped away.

Well, no silver, just:
20 dimes (1970-2002)
4 nickels (1984-1996)
1 Canadian dime (1982)
----------------------------
US$2.20 + CAN$0.10

The first Canadian non-penny I've seen in the wild in years. Meh, $2.20 for free... I can't complain. I hope no one else is complaining that their dimes disappeared.

EDIT: As your responses so quickly pointed out, that "10" should have been a "20". I blame the error on that bugged Canuck dime planting subliminal messages in my head.

I Found 23 cents on Thursday in a CoinStar Machine.

Last week I found a penny.

Nothing special about any of them, but hey, 24 cents is 24 cents!

Well, things are a bit different here, as there are no change counting machines, but I did find 400yen in a vending machine. These machines are EVERYWHERE. Seriously, about 4 or 5 to a block. I check em when I am near em.

400yen(4x100yen)=3.60 or so US

They don't use bills smaller than 1000yen here, so the machines all take em, give back change.

While dumping some halves over lunch, picked an '81 Canadian quarter and '79 Canadian dime out of the reject tray.

And with the current exchange rate (read weak US dollar) it's worth even more than $0.35.

Yesterday I stopped in at a convenience store on my way to work (as I do 5 times a week). One of the pennies in my change looked a bit old.

It was.

1956-D

Tonight when I get home I am going to examine it closely for double die mintmark error.

When dumping some coin today, and it filled so they had to change bags 8), I asked (like I usually do) if I could check the reject bucket on the inside of the machine. They said yes (like they usually do) and in there was a rolled up US one dollar bill.

Yeah, free money. You gotta like like it. 8)

I was dumping about $80 in nickels and pennies today at the bank and found a Canadian penny (2006 RCM) that didn't slide into the counter opening. Then I found out why - the metal that makes up the opening appears to be magnetic and the penny stuck to it real hard. Never noticed that before...

Sounds like a repeat of yesterday's post to this thread, but when dumping rejects today, it filled and they had to change the bags. While they were changing them, I found (another) one dollar bill inside the machine.........and a US dime and US ('44p) cent in the reject bucket.

Too weird.

I went to the grocery store to get a few rolls of dimes and found a ten dollar bill. Does that count?

From Nevada State Bank's coin counter reject slot today -

Canada 5¢ - 2002-P
Canada 25¢ - 2002-P
China - 10 yuan - 1987
Germany - 1 mark - 1964-D

...and one zinc US penny

My usual Coinstar has produced zilch for several weeks now so it was great finding this little cache.
