This interestingly decorated slate pendant from Maine was collected by George Barton, one of the earlier generation of collectors from my parts, sometime before 1963, and described in the article titled "Unique Artifacts from Maine", in this edition of the Journal of the Massachusetts Archaeological Society. There were many pendants in the collection, and all from various sites on the Kennebec River:

Some of the pendants were from Norridgewock, a 17th century village ministered to by French Jesuits(yes, those guys!), and the designs included Christian images. This pendant could date from that time frame, but unfortunetly I do not know the exact site for this piece in that collection. But neat imagery for sure....
