This is the second coyote I've seen within a year infected with mange disease in my area. Looks like he was hunting for grubs out in this field. That poor sucker is gonna be in a bad predicament with the coming cold front due in by tonight. I think I'm gonna send this info to the local parks and open space ranger. The one I saw before was out in the open-space land behind where I live and walk my dogs. I don't know if this disease could threaten peoples pets having this in the area?.

Why killing off the alpha male/female doesn't work. This article explains it quite well.

https://blog.michael-martinez.com/why-killing-coyotes-does-not-work/
I had a Navada game warden tell me this same scenario once. We struck up a conversation over dinner one night at the Hotel Nevada in Ely and he also went on to say the more you try to eradicate the coyote the more their numbers will increase. The alfas also kill off other male pups just like a male lion will do in thier natural order of things. I've found the dead remains of coyote pups a few times around here. The game warden I was talking to that night was working a night shift and his duty that night was to drive 100 miles out west on highway 50 and then return to Ely with a total count of all the jack rabbits he see's. I told him I could dig that job.

They're only doing what coyotes do..preditor/scavenger.
This one should be put out of it's misery imo. To me that just seems a bit more humane. Then burn the carcass to get rid of the mites.

It probably has been run out of the pack already, being sick and all.

I'll think of something more interesting, such as something historical. This mangy mutt isn't all that fascinating imo. Who wants to see it again.

I had to treat the cat for tape worms maybe a month ago. Yeah I don't know what the county is gonna do about these varmint dogs around here, but they are not like the kind that get shot at all the time like the ones in Wyoming and Nevada that run like hell when they see a vehicle pull over and stop. They're everywhere now and bringing there diseases with them I'm sure. Sometimes I can see their minds working as they look at ya like they're putting a little thought into the idea of taking you on.

We live in farm land here and about 10 yrs ago , a lot of the farmers were losing livestock due to an over population of coyote. With the fur market price of fox and coyote way down people stopped hunting them. Then a handful of us hunters began again with dogs and calls---it was unreal how many of these were taken, lots! They are a smart critter, and I really enjoy wild life, but to many is to many.

Perhaps if you introduced roadrunners into the country that might take care of the coyote problem. Or maybe just a local Acme factory outlet store. (haha!)
