Maybe I'm a lil different MD-er.

I know the finds that can come from water hunting. (I've done that too.).

But, what I "REALLY" like is when an unexpected, beautiful old coin reveals itself to the light again, from out of a freshly dug hole in the ground. The ground can be miserable to a good coin, but every now and then, something comes out that just makes one sit back and take notice.

Today I was pretty miserable out there. Hot, tough ground, other annoyances. As I made my way back to the car I was just sort of meandering and swiped the down slope of that little bit of earth they tend to pile up when widening a road. You know, the grade from the edge of the field that angles sharply down toward the road. (This road hasn't been widened in about a hundred years, but there was still a bit of a slope. Probably from a snow plow.

Anyway, I was really done for the day so I wasn't in the mood to dig. Still, afraid I'd miss something, I did dig a couple good signals. A couple wheats, a new tennis can lid, a beer can. Then....this pops out. The ground seemed a little different in this slope. Dark but sort of sandy, greyish. A mix of whatever they made the road out of I suppose. This coin was nestled in some very deep grass roots, I knew it was something special as soon as I saw it peeking out. I could see a couple very clear stars and a face thru the dirt.

I sat down on the edge of the hill and used the rest of my water to rinse it off very, very carefully. I recognized it immediately! I did nothing else but gather myself and get home.

Under good lighting the details that exposed themselves just blew me away! Unfortunately, it showed me something I didn't want to see too. Being tired, and not caring much, I wasn't as careful about digging as I usually am. I evidently dotted Miss Liberty's eye. Doesn't matter to me much though. This will never be up for sale.

Sorry for the long post, but this is just about as good as it gets, for me.

Enjoy.

Sorry about the quality of the photos. I tried to do this coin justice but I'm just not a photographer.

Thanks for taking the time to peek.

Stunning. Don't think I've seen many of those posted on here since becoming a member, especially in that shape.

As I thought that's an old dig in the eye. Not you.

Agreed. If you did it there would be no patina in the gouge. It looks like an old ding to me.

Congrats on a very nice coin.
