Today while detecting around an Indiana house built in the early 1900's, I came across this button. It is obviously in the style of a military type button, but I noticed it did not have a raised edge nor horizontal banding, as on other military buttons I have seen. Was this a replica for consumer fashion? Or are there military buttons lacking those features I mentioned. As you can see it is about 3 cm (a little over an inch) in diameter. The back is marked with 3 stars and the words "Extra Quality". Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Your button is military. It is US Army, Great Seal button. Adopted in 1903 and still in use today. I'm not much good at dating those.

Your button is the early version made from 1901-1910. A rim was added to the button in 1910.

Thank you everyone. I was hoping it was a legitimate button, but I just not seen one exactly like it before.
