You have been misinformed. You never have to charge up the coil, just the control box. Wireless headphones are not stock on the NOX 600, just the 800. At $650.00 for multi-freq tech, cheap is already here! :skullflag:

I may have been thinking about a different detector with the coil bit but 600-900 dollars ain't cheap

It is compared to what multifrequency cost in the past.

With the 15% minelab military discount from an authorized dealer the NOX600 is a GREAT deal

What are you looking for? And what kinds of detecting do you want to do and what kind of soils do you have? Different machines are better for different applications. As far as the price goes, I would only expect increases in the next few years, for most manufacturers. That's mainly since the economy is doing better.

No, you're right. $649-$900 is not cheap for machines that, despite some bells and whistles, still just sound off on metals with no definitive indication of what the metal is. For that matter you can spend $2,500+ and still not have any real certainty about what's under the coil via the machine alone. Metal detection technology has been one of the slowest growth sectors in the technology world. Progress has been made in many ways, but we've paid dearly for it (think about how much some of these machines are compared to cell phones, which are far more complex). That aside, these Equinox models arguably offer more at their price points than any machines out there at similar price points and beyond. I would argue that they will lead to a revolution in the pricing of most mid-upper level machines, even shuffling many mid level machines to the low end. It redefines what we will expect from machines at this price point and beyond forever.

how much would you expect to pay for a machine that can see through dirt? add to that the price of a machine that can put things in your hands that have not been held by other humans
for tens of or maybe even thousands of years.add to that the prestige of walking around a park with a spade and magic time machine without getting arrested.
way cheaper than a treadmill, and if your better half does not want to join you they most likely will suggest that you go detect by yourself...win,win,win...
heck you could blown that much money in the casino or bar in one night....and after you buy all your gear and include gas money for your hunts...its still cheaper than smoking crack but way more addictive.
