UPDATE - 6:45 PM PT ā€“ Wednesday June 8, 2011

The Budget Committees had hearings today in both houses.

There is no way to give an accurate assessment, at this moment, of the status of the Trailer Bill Language, as the hearings are still proceeding.

But, there is reason to believe that your combined efforts are having some positive impact on the process in the Capitol, as of this moment. It is therefore recommended that you continue the course we have set for you, to tell your state Legislators and Gov. Brown: 1) How the removal of our Language from the Budget Trailer Bill will have nothing but a positive effect on CAā€™s economy, 2) That DFG has not run a deficit in enforcing the Suction Dredge Program in the past, and 3) That all the significant impacts were mitigated by DFG through the proposed new regulations. In this way, you can address all the reasons given in support of the Trailer Bill Language when it was approved by Budget Subcommittees on May 11-12.

If you have yet to write your first letter, there are many resources here to assist you. Be one of the thousands who are flooding Sacramento with reasons to drop the Budget Trailer Bill Language.

If you have already written a letter(s) how about writing another letter, or recycling those previously sent via e-mail, and send it again by Fax. Be sure you have made multiple contacts with each of your 2 legislators, and the Governor, with each of your letters.

And donā€™t forget to Fax the latest (6/6/11) SacBee and CNBC articles to them too.
Please also go to the SacBee site (see Press Releases) and post your ā€˜multipleā€™ comments to boost our numbers there in the public arena too.

As always a FAX hard copy document has maximum impact and more urgency in a Legislatorā€™s front office. So always try to FAX your documents, and use e-mail as a backup plan. But consider this. You could also use e-mail to double the impact of your letter(s) or news article(s) sent via FAX, by sending a second copy via e-mail too. Do the double delivery method and bump up the ā€œVote NOā€ count for our side!

Keep burying Sacramento with your letters and articles, and letā€™s turn this thing around.

Continuing the multi-prong approach (News articles & letters) is the best way to move forward from here, if you intend to win!

Mining claims are in the catagory of unsecured taxes, sierra county stand to loose most of this. mining claims on the river will be worthless, patent land are in secures taxes

Sierra County Treasurer-Tax Collector
The property tax cycle begins with the Assessor's Office appraising property for taxation purposes. Once the Assessor has completed his process, the assessment roll is electronically transferred to the Auditor who calculates the bills based upon the tax rates and special assessments such as the solid waste fee and water district fees.

The Tax Collector receives the tax roll and bills the owner of the property being taxed. This office collects all property taxes for real estate, homes, commercial property, boats, mining claims and business equipment. The 2009-10 total collected in current and delinquent taxes was $6,965,003. The breakdown follows:

ā€¢2009-10 Secured taxes: $6,274,604 - 95.47% collection rate

ā€¢2009-10 Unsecured taxes: $386,956 - 95.36% collection rate

ā€¢2009-10 Supplemental taxes: $79,404 - 94.23% collection rate

ā€¢Prior Year Secured Taxes: $217,581

ā€¢Prior Year Unsecured Taxes: $6,458

As payments are made, the Tax Collector keeps track of the payments and whether the payments are made on time. If the taxes are not paid for five years on secured property (property with land included), the Tax Collector must conduct a public auction to sell the property and recover the taxes that are due. This is not a fun part of the job but sometimes people abandon property when they are unable to pay the taxes and this is a way to get the property back into productive ownership. The public auction of real estate is conducted on the Internet. Some of the properties have high tax delinquencies and, for that reason, we have felt the need to publicize the sale on the internet. If you're interested in the tax sale, please click on Tax Auction FAQs.
We always try to work with people to prevent the loss of their property by offering payment plans and working with lenders to clear up the delinquencies.
