Well I found plenty of loom weights last year, looks like the same again this year. Braved the light dusting of snow and the freezing air and spent 3 hours on a local field. Managed to find a couple of coppers a George 111 disc, an Edward V11 penny 1907, a George 111 counterfit shilling with a little of it's silver coating left. Also a plain rough looking loom weight, and leaving the best find till the very end of the session a loom weight with letters on it. Can't work out what they say though.

HH Robert.

They look more like Saxon spindle whorls, is that the same as a loom weight? HH, Mike

Think so Mike, there may be a difference between a loom weight and a whorl. Were worls used for wool ?.

Come to think of it the letters do look like the ones on copper stycas (retrograde).

Been trying to get a better pic. (very hard with lead). The letters do look runic, the find does look much better than the pics with loads of letters.
