So...today dad and I were expecting to hit a friend of mine's old property which also had a cellar hole with a bottle dump in the woods in their backyard, but when I talked to him today, his dad said the he wasn't cool with it, so oh well. :dontknow:

We ended up at a site that we discovered last year I think where we've all found a few modern silver coins at. Nothing much more exciting than that. Haven't really hit it too hard yet. Today we were wandering in one end of the field and I popped a silver quarter. Next, dad found a silver dime, and then another. Then I dug a zinc penny sort of signal, as some of the wheats were hitting a little low and weak. I noticed the target in the side of my plug in the "wrapped present" (encased in a tight ball of dirt), as most of the targets were found. Well, this thing was only 3 inches below the surface at max, and it sounded like a zinc penny, so I carelessly pryed the thing out of the clump with my digger and saw a very small, dark disc and thought, oh shoot. :help: Scratched it up good.

Immediately I walked over to dad with the thing in my hand telling him I got old silver. I couldn't tell what it was until we got back to the car after the hunt. Couldn't believe to see the outline of the bust and the stars. Wow. I'm still in disbelief. I mean, it's not worth much in this condition; I can't even get a date on it, but it's just crazy that this thing was waiting for us in this field, where the current structure was only built around 1955. No idea what was there before that. :icon_scratch:
This year has been quite full of surprises. Can't ask for anything more.

Neat little thing for a skeleton key

Could that be a mashed up lead bullet? And I think the small charms are silver.

This product was bought out in 1956.

Nice finds! I love the silver coin and I have had my careless scratches as well. Dug a crappy signal and when I checked it out (1832 Nova Scotia Half Penny Token) I gouged the back pretty good :'(

And there lies one of our hobby's frustrations: A good coin in awful condition  Beats no good coins, though!

I tried, but I can't get the camera to focus on when I hold it that close to the coin. This is the best I could do. :dontknow:
