We tried 2 new fields, me in one & Dad in the other.

We spent 2 hours with a good find each & that was about it.

I had a Romano-Celtic (cica 1st AD) Bronze (broken) Mount with traces of Red & Blue Enamel. Not sure what it mounts to as I have never seen a similar one in any books or research.

Dad had a tiny 13th century Knife Terminal. The iron blade has gone.

See next reply for field 3, one of our better spots.

Re: MORNING HUNT - NEW FIELDS

We decided to go back to one of our better fields & spent only 1.5 hours before Dad had to leave & drop me off home.

Medieval Strapend, two Medieval book clasps (1 broken), Medieval thimble.

A nice Roman Coin :) Found by me.

I can't take it anymore! I am getting on a plane and heading over to go detecting with you! Seriously though, I love your posts and the knowledge you have of your finds amazes me. That is what happens when you live in a country who partners up with metal detectorists, instead of banning them from any site they may deem archaeological, which to them is everywhere. Whoops, I went from congratulations to rant, sorry about that. Keep the posts coming, I look forward to the next one...Ryan

Interesting finds, is that a bronze from Constantine? I just toured the Constantine exhibition in Trier a few weeks ago. Just got back and I have empty pockets to show for it. HH, Mike

Crusader,

I commend you for your knowledge of the items you are recovering! Finds like these are easily tossed out or relegated to the junk boxes if their recoverers don't realize what they are looking at. It is great that you are always willing to go the extra mile to identify each item.

Cheers, and Keep it Up!

Yes, It is a centenionalis of Constantius II. From the style of the portrait it looks to have been struck in Siscia. Here is an example from a different mint than yours (notice the difference in portrait style). The pictured coin was struck in Antioch.

(Your coin)
Obverse: DN CONSTAN-TIVS PF AVG

Reverse: FEL TEMP RE-PARATIO

Mint: Probably Siscia (X SIS)

Thanks,

I'll be out to field3 for some more Romans in an hour. Hoping for a hammered coin today or silver anything. Might look at the dump field to see if its flatten & pick up some more WWI capbadges etc..
