Muddy Maverick Site "dishes" out some goodies...

...and a two pound "whatsit".

Chris (mave2535) and I got out to our Maverick site for about three hours this morning, and after the 3 inches of rain we had last night, mud was the order of the day (with a side of slop ;D). I'm going to attempt to keep this fairly short and just let the pictures do the talking. Headed up to the high spot where we believe the original homesite was and immediately started getting some decent signals. Chris was the first to score with a beautiful flat button - the back reads: London/Double Gilt - any help (age) with this will be greatly appreciated. I hit next with a very odd coin (see pics) - thought it was anther colonial copper but I swear it says Venezuela on the obverse (?!) - no date and the back is toast (anyone got an i.d.?). Dug a bunch of horseshoe nails (tacks?) and was pleasantly surprised to pick two pieces of what looks to be an old plate of some sort (can't remember what this type is called :icon_scratch:). My last hit (almost knocked me down) was this giant bar of what I think is iron - it weighs nearly two pounds, six inches long, 2 inches wide and about 1 and 1/4 inches high (?!). One end looks like its been hammered or very roughly cut. No clue as to what the he** it is (any ideas?). Before we left, we decided to hit the other side of the road where all the old buildings and well sits. I'm glad we did! About ten feet from the well I got a solid dime signal and lo-and-behold, I dug this pretty little 1916 S Barber dime (our first trip out here I pulled a 1907 Barber quarter about five feet away from this). It was a great way to end the day's hunt - tomorrow we'll be heading out again in hopes of pulling some more goodies from the "colonial side"... :icon_thumright:

By the way, if anyone remembers the little joke that Modern Miner and I played on Chris (see the video - http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,202220.0.html) - today Chris dished out a big "payback" on me. After pulling that sweet button, I went back to swingin' when he starts flipping out and calling me back over to see "what else is in the hole". He was white as a ghost and I thought WTF(?!) - I look down into his plug and there was this giant piece of silver staring back at me!!! You could just make out that it was a big ol' honkin' Morgan :o - I was about to hit him with my shovel and jump his claim :D then he busted out laughing and kindly reminded me that payback is a ..... :-* ;D

Anyway, enjoy the many pics and thanks for stopping by. Stay classy T'net and keep on swingin'... :happy3:

SC - you are more than welcome anytime you want to come up for a hunt. I'll even get Modern Miner to come down so you can pick on him with us... ;D

All you'll need to bring is your equipment and some SC State Police stickers... :D

DDD,

I think you've got the site of one of the Old houses on the property with that flat button and broken china coming up on that hill.

Keep up the good work--I'm very happy it's paying off for you now. And once you pound that one to death, there will be another house site or two, plus at least two barns on that property. :)

Best Wishes,

Buckles

I think that part may be from an old chisel plow.I have found a few with the same general size.Maybe not as thick. Then again it could be a whatzit. Happy Hunting, DAN
