Hi All,
More deep items found using the Coiltek 15" at a pounded site.
Toilet water bottle with crown cap,
another larger crown cap,
A Barrette,
Rosette with glass.
Lead folding beaded seal with hole? :dontknow:
I thought I found just another garter clip til I rescanned the pile
& found the shield stamped GWV with RR tracks :icon_scratch:
Another example of silver that looks like copper with the fork fragment,
I've found many old silver pieces that saltwater has disguised like this..
And lastly, I thought I dug a brass porthole :o
I think it's a 1920s Cadillac headlight housing, it is a thick stamping and I recovered what glass I could find, 12 inches in diameter, emblem matches 1920s models.
Just a pile of relics, but a fun morning spent in search of that elusive
Doubloon I know is hidden at this site.
Thanks for looking & Happy Hunting !

Re: Mudflat Relics

Thanks all!
Some research finds the item is a 1919 Cadillac model 57 headlight door.
1920 models lost the shield shaped beading for a simpler design,
Here is a misrepresented ad for this item on ebay, note they are missing the removeable caddy emblems, but retain the swivelbolt latch.

has anyone heard of GWV or recognize that toasty shield piece ?
or ideas on what that lead piece is? a seal of some type? :icon_scratch:
great digs to all!

Thanks Creskol,
Researching this stuff is quite entertaining, (sometimes frustrating too)
Here's the caddy site with detailed model year info, the 1920 page is where it tells of the headlight design change
HH all

Great War Veteran
This badge recognized individual military service and membership in the Great War Veterans' Association (GWVA). It was worn by Captain William Henry Brothers, who served as a doctor with the Canadian Army Medical Corps. The GWVA was the largest of several veterans' organizations in the inter-war period. It merged with smaller groups to form the Canadian Legion of the British Empire Service League in 1925. The Canadian Legion became the Royal Canadian Legion in 1960.

Hi Dave,
Ahh Crown caps, I remember my first....
had to post it on whatsit :icon_scratch:
there are two examples in this post, the one on the bottle is nonremoveable, the other has a cork and is kinda bent.
I got half a dozen or so now, I search areas where people disposed of their trash,
& the caps were pretty common on perfume, hair stuff etc.
Nice Hudnut piece, strange how related things get found in short periods of time.
Thanks all for your replies! I forgot to check the 'replies' box, didn't know anyone had posted! HH all :hello2:
