I was out at the 100 year old kids' camp where a few of us who post on the forum go. It's 80 acres, so lots of places to search. My best find there so far has been 1899 Barber dime a few weeks ago. Today I had about three hours at the end of the day and was finding lots of clad and several wheats. It was getting dark and I was talking to myself "come on silver, I've worked hard, I deserve it" (anyone else do this?)...over and over, "come on silver" -- it's getting dark and I was giving myself maybe one or two more good signals to dig before calling it quits. I get a good silver tone and sure enough -- a trip to the Barber (1916 dime; too bad not a merc!)...made my day. Lousy photo below, been having some kind of problem with the flower setting lately.

Nice find!

Just a question: You're the second post I've read were someone found a Barber but said too bad it wasn't a Mercury. Why is that? Personal preference? I mean a Barber is an older coin. So whats up with that.

1916 "D" mint Merc is a key date. One in good condition is worth over $500!!

Nice find. ;D ;D

No, I usually don't verbalize my thoughts but I do think the same. :)

Usually the clad is in the same spots that the silver is in. Seems like you have narrowed the large property down to at least a couple smaller spots. Good luck.

Way to go Bergie! 8)

When I have been out all day, and haven't found anything exciting, I start thinking... "OK...you better hurry up! You know you can't leave here without at least one keeper!" :D

Congrats on your find! Nana :)
