I've had my detector for about a month and a half and have done lots of site research but haven't really gone anywhere "good" yet. Today I was hunting my next door neighbor's front yard (with permission) and was just finding random stuff (an old, broken toy fire engine, a 1968 Canadian 5 cent, junk...). Then I went across the street to the sdewalk strip, literally 30 feet from my front door. In a few minutes I got a signal and dug a 1916 Canadian one cent piece. I was so excited. I came in to eat and went back out and one of my neighbors was walking her dog and said "are you looking for gold?" I was a bit impatient because I had been trying to zone in on a couple of targets and lost track of where I was looking, so I did the small talk spiel and she left. Turns out she was a goodluck charm!! ;D

The very next signal I got, like 20 seconds later, was my FIRST GOLD! the ring below. And less than two minutes later I got an Indian Head penny, my 2nd ever.

yay! I love this!
thanks for looking and HH,
Lara

Right on!

That large cent is in sweet shape.

mlw-
well, that side is, anyway - the other side is mostly corroded and green, I took a pic, but not enough room for the attachment in my original post. I went online and found this pic - on mine you can only read a little bit of the lettering, but can't see any of the portrait.

Nice finds. ;D You know that is one of the most common heckels I get. Sometimes I give them that "Yeah, Doofus" look. Most times I just carry on and nod.

don't worry, I've still got a lot of catching up to do - like 20 years or so! BTW, I replied to your pm.
