My kid picked up a computer virus for me.

vav.exe which came up with repetitive error screens that resembled microsoft advisories.

while the machine was infected, with these stupid screens popping up every minute, or two,

I was able to D/L and install a copy of AVG Free version 8.0 and it resolved the problem completely.

Now I am running AVG in the background. works fine.

Good program.

Avira is also free for personal use.

I have been using AVG for years and won't use anything else. Haven't had a virus problem that hasn't be resolved in minutes.

Avast (virus) and Zone alarm (firewall) here, both free, easy to use and much better
than the bloat offered by the better known companies.

All the new computers i build are loaded with both of these programs as well as
adaware , which does a good job getting rid of adware etc. (also free)

The best Viral scanner for Windows is Panda, and for the Spyware/Addware is Addaware.

The only true way to get rid of a virus is to rebuild Windows unfortunately, but if you build your own Puter boxes like me and some other Panda will scan your Box in Dos mode.

Turn off Windows go back feature cause the virus hides in there.

I've got to buy more memory for my PC.
It's a 3 or 4yr old Emachine and all the junk running slows it down.

I had built some faster machines in the past, this time I just went cheap!

Think memory will go down at Xmas time when they go for big sales?
