Here is a tiny drill or awl that I found in the mid 70's while trying to wedge my way to the top of a Butte near Scottsbluff, NE. As I grabbed for the thick grass at the top of the Butte, this puppy came right out in my hand. I wish there were a better way to get more detail on the flaking because it is miraculous. I have to wonder what it was used for (or exactly how it was used) because it seems like it would break easily.
Sort of funny, I was 14 yrs old and on vacation at friends of my parents and they got a 16 year old girl to take me out there to look. She brought a blanket. I brought a shovel. It was many years later that I realized, I don't think she wanted to arrowhead hunt. I wish I had it to do over again. I'd be at the base of that Butte sorting through the stuff that eroded out instead of on top of it trying to dig little holes with a shovel. LOL

That is an awesome find. I have yet to find a nice drill. Yours looks like it could double as a scraper. Thanks for sharing!

Now that is a awesome drill! Looking at it looks like this beautiful artifact served two purposes. First and obvious one is a drill, but look at it carefully and you see that it was also used as a thumbnail scraper. That is a very nice find and it looks perfect.

That's a super nice awl! :icon_thumleft: To get some better pictures of the flaking, you might want to use a black background. When using your camera in the auto mode, just get close enough so the photo comes out clear. Then after you post, we can zoom in and see the flaking even closer up.
