Buckleboy and I (The Cane Field Bandits) got out in a new field at 5:30 yesterday morning. Trying to beat the Louisiana heat and humidity. While stomping thru gumbo thick mud and swatting mosquitoes I dug my first civil war button, a Union Eagle. In the past I have found a War of 1812 Artillery button, a U.S Navy 1820s era and three WW1 era buttons, I was beginning to wonder if i would ever get a CW era for the collection. The site we are recovering from is near a CW skirmish site. Other CW relics have been making their way into our pouches. Here I also dug 2 pieces of an Enfield rifle trigger guard on two separate hunts. And a fired mini ball. Thanks for looking and HH!

Killer find.....found some dropped Merrill bullets yesterday in Tn. Was sure hoping for a good button. Gonna go back in few if the rain holds off. Have dug some good buttons in years past but nothing but a penny button since I started back a few weeks ago. :occasion14:

Congrats Shane!!! That will be the first of many CW buttons you will dig there (Both US & CS) . Save some for us this Fall and don't let BB eat up all the gumbo-LOL. WTG, Quindy.

Congrats on your first of many I'm sure!

Congrats, Shane!! Found my 1st right here on my property...boy was I ever shocked. Had traveled all the way to MO, anticipated on finding something CW besides horse shoes. Come home and about a week later find the button here. LOL!

That's one nice button. Are you going to try to clean it up or leave it as it is?

That's a great find, man. The second one is much easier than the first. My first was back in the spring of 1993 at a Union artillery implacement. One of us will eventually find the rest of that trigger guard, so don't lose hope.

Congrats Shane! I agree with Quindy and Buckles, now that you have broken the ice, the buttons should start coming out of the ground at a more frequent rate now!!
