I'm a newbie detectorist, but have had a lot of success on dry land. If I'm near a beach I'll truck down the shore but have no idea what I'm doing so hadn't found anything. Today though I went along an outflowing stream that had cut big banks into the sand and found my first coins! And one of them is a 1940 wheatie! Can't tell if it has a mintmark, and it may not be visible from the scan but that's what it is lol. Then there's the other even smaller "coin". The edges look like copper so pretty sure it's also a penny.

The third coin is actually two coins that are fused together, also plunked from that beach area. I think it's very neat that they're like that and hope they stay like that in my little find display place.

Happy Hunting!

Way to go! From the reddish tone of the first coin, maybe it spent years underground near the roots of a tree before being swept toward the ocean.
