My first gold coin, and it only took 22 years………

I just spent a couple of days trudging around an old Air Force friends property south of Greenville, SC. It’s always produced some good finds. Last week I stopped by on my way home from a trip, and he gave me an arrowhead he found about 10 feet from where I was digging last time I was there. I took a couple of days off to look for arrowheads, but still took my Eagle II with me. After a day of arrowhead hunting, I had a couple of nice ones and a pocket full of pieces. Yesterday I started out looking for arrowheads, and then started swinging the detector around 10am. Even though the temperature was 90°+, I trudged on, and am glad I did. After 22+ years of treasure hunting, my first gold coin!!

An 1854 $1 piece. It’s beat up, bent, dented, scratched and has seen better days, but it’s still a beauty to me!! The 1853 Quarter looks like it had been in a fire.

How many times, in 22 years, have you knelt down hoping "this is the one"? That's an amazing piece of history. My hat is off to you, sir. Way to go!

EVERY Time. And if it's round with even a hint of gold, my heart usually skips a beat. Then........ 1/2 second later, a slump of the shoulders and a choice expletive.
