Went to an old school yard this afternoon. The school has been there since at least 1937 but has expanded considerably since then. The ring is 12K and has lost the center stone but all the surrounding stones are still there. I found it ~5 inches deep between the soccer field and football field near some old bleachers. When I first saw it I fell back on my a$$ and just gawked at it. I was happy as a little girl! Also found a 1950 wheatie and $0.54 clad. Tomorrow me and Oscar (Sandsifter) are gonna hit the area hard before the Super Bowl and drink a lot of beer. It was a good day.

Hate to be "Debbie-Downer", but this is not gold. It is gold-plated and you can even see where the plating has worn down.
Most probably you are seeing 12kH.G.E., which stands for heavy gold electroplate, or 12K g.f., which means gold-filled.
At any rate it is not solid 12k, but it is still a fun find.
