Found yesterday in wooded area here in central Ma,Winchester 22 that was probably in nice shape when buried. Was wrapped in clear plastic few inches down.Local chief now has to check serial number, was a low number so buddy said maybe a collectors gun that got stolen.

Very nice, looks like the metal is fairly decent from the pics too, a good oil soaking, some new wood and it might be a shooter...

Really cool find. Being buried and in plastic, I would say most likely it was stolen cause what other reason would a gun be buried that way for? Someone had intentions of coming back to get it, but might have got cold feet or maybe just too dumb to remember where they hid it (typical criminal.)
