My Holy Grail "1382" Half Penny

I just got my Explorer SE yesterday and after reading the instructions last night I took it out today for it's virgin hunt. Imagine my surprise when I pulled out of the ground the rarest coin I have found yet.

Though it is in rough shape, as all of the coppers are, I can positively identify is as an 1832 Imitation King George IV Thistle Half Penny with the 1382 error date! It was found in my own field at 9 inches :o where I have found 8 other colonial tokens. I wish I could get a better picture of the date and the detail but my photographic abilities are not quite up to snuff.

Nice find. I like how you included the picture from the book. Once you know what the image is suppose to look like it's easier to see through the crud on the coin.

Re: My Holy Grail "1382" Half Penny

Thanks all! I am still reeling from this find. I thought I had coppered out my field with the MXT but I was wrong. This is my first Minelab so I decided to go with the Explorer SE. I am very happy thus far. As for the learning curve on this machine...nothing to it! The instructions are very easy to follow. I love the "Learn" and "Edit" features of this machine and the customizable programs. Also, the pinpointing is spot on! I am looking at getting a Sunray X-1 to supplement the detector. Thanks again!

I will post a better picture tomorrow of the coin. The digital camera at work is much better than the one I have at home!

Nice find!
I've heard some good stuff about the SE. I tried a friends Explorer and it was real heavy compared to my PrizmV. How is the weight on that unit?

To tell you the truth it is quite heavy! I was out yesterday for a couple hours and I could really feel the strain on my arm. However, I will sacrifice a little (very little) discomfort if the machine keeps finding the loot!
