my luck holds! it sucks!

See. I have found three key coins in the past 2 years. 01s barber qtr , 14d penny and Sunday the grail of pennies........09S VDB . Bad luck?......See for yourselfs :P ..........I wont even bother finding the 14d to post a pic as it is worse than the 09. I only know the 09 vdb is an S because I see the 9 in the last digit of the date, the vdb on back, and the mint mark, which I originally thought was a D until I started checking. I took as good of photos as a could with my mavica. I will get a better camera from work for some better pics later. I also posted the barber, for you all to chuckle at my misfortunes

You know, even in those conditions, the coins are still valuable. True, we always wish our finds came up looking pristine, but it just doesn't happen all the time. Nice work--and you should consider yourself very lucky to have found so many key and semi-key coins. Most of us will never find one.

Plehbah....Yes, I hope my time will come. I'm not complaining TOO much. I would just like to find a key date or semi key date coin that I could possibly SELL someday . While were on the subject of barbers......Here's some of my bad old goodies KEY and SEMI. (Note I decked the 1896 :P). I'm kinda like rodney dangerfield.....Get no respect from the old coins. Maybe I should change my name? Maybe UGLYcoins. Since oddcoins is taken?

I faired a little better than you last year, Rebel, on the semi-keys. I found 3 that were in decent shape ('21D merc, '75 IH, '08S IH), but my other 2 were toast ('22 P penny, '96 O Dime). I'm still glad I dug them.

Few md'ers have dug the kind of coins you've found. That's worth something in my book.

I dug 2 1909 wheat's and not sure if they have the s mint marks or the VDB for that matter,they are in about the same condition as the one you posted. Ive tried soaking them in both oil and peroxide to no avail,the only thing i can make out so far is the 1909 date.

Oh, how I feel your pain! Dug these two, and both times found Indian cents that were older, in much better shape. I agree with you, and I'm more than happy to have detected them, but certainly would love to have found them in better condition. They are out there!

That 1922 Plain is probably still worth over a hundred dollars. Nice work, Captn!

Put that 1909 in a white potato and let it sit for about 12 hours. Pull it out and if it is not completely clean, put it in another slit in that potato and wash it really good with soap and water when your done with the potato treatment. It will leave the patina but remove all the green and bad stuff.

After it sits for a day or two....rub some vaseline into it...use plenty and let it sit overnight and then buff it a little with a paper towel. It will look like a nice brown circulated penny. Test it on a more common copper wheat first, but I bet you will be jazzed with the results!
