It's been a ruff start to the year. High water and constant bad weather has limited my allready limited mining time. Went out to greenwood creek access on the SF American one day in between storms mainly cause I had never been there, it's the only access on this section of river I've never been and I just had to get out of the house, cabin fever was hitting hard. I brought the pan of course but didn't use it much. This section of river is flat and covered in about 10 ft of sand. You can get some specks but its not worth it. I was surprised though how much flat ground was available for lounging and recreating in the summer. Much more then I expected even at high water.

There was a massive Wood pile up on the upstream edge of the river bend... big drop out zone. The flows that put it there were 30k CFS. It almost hit 40 later that week when the last storm came in. So that wood pile is either larger now or maybe completely gone down river somewhere?. I did spend about 30 minutes on the only section of bedrock that wasn't underwater. Didn't get much gold but managed some Poison Oak on my left arm... Damn plant! Nothing was visible but I had to rip some blackberry vines out of the way so must have been mixed in.

Anyways here is the whopping total for the year so far and a few random pics. less the a gram for the first month and a half of the year. 25grams is a looooong ways away! 20170213_185225.jpg 20170204_131659.jpg 20170204_131645.jpg 20170111_164209.jpg

Go back and shake that root ball.
Oh believe me I inspected it. I've been prospecting the valley. There is gold nearby but not where the tree is located. It was however...and I'm not arborist by any means .. i think about the right age if some old timer wanted to bury his poke. It was 3ft of water in the hole at the time.

Well I wish I had more to post and more gold to share but it hasnt worked out that way. Working more hours at work has kept me from getting out during the week.

I got 2 after work digs in last month. My friend Gary showed me a new spot but it is only mine able during a torrential storm or when it's bone dry. The lead is also ridiculous so it must be kept separate.

I did get off work at a decent hour on Thursday and headed to my normal after work spot and got harassed by Craig the ranger for about 45 minutes.. let's just say that Craig is not miner friendly and I will not be going back...damn California!

Well anyways here is a few shots of of my meager gold take for February. Had one good weekend day out on the river last week and got about .4g

Haha!!!.... Senor Craig is no bueno. But he can't win. He's only down to patrol the easy ground. The terrain on the other side of the river is to much for him.

While he sat on our dig for 45 min!!!...he asked me if I cared or liked the history aspect. I looked him dead in the eye and explained to him that they, not us were REAL men.. I think he felt what I was putting down. lol

Next time in going up not with the bikes I'll see what your up to and hopefully we can meet up!

Nice color Erik. I have my work cut out for me now. New build in progress for the Meat: 16"x6' 3" gravity dredge to work a new (old) section of the Meat. You're invited sometime this summer. Bring waders

I have been wanting to check out the upper sections of the SF American, so when my friend Gary said he was going to the Silver Fork, I made it the plan for this weekend.

Absolutely gorgeous area. He has a claim up river a couple miles but it's still snowed in. So we goofed around at near China Flat Campground.

The water was really high and cold, so we couldn't access anything good, but I still managed to prove that there is gold there. It has an insane amount of pure black iron sand which makes it even more difficult.

Had a great day and got some color checking out another new area. First day of mining with truley nice weather in about 5 months. It felt good.Thinking of heading south next...maybe...Love to explore even though I could have gotten more gold if I wanted to elesewhere.
