Thank you for the idea. In looking that up, I ran across graphite schist which really looks like what the little sparkley stuff mixed in might be....but I will have to run it across some paper when I get home because I dont recall it ever leaving any smudges on anything. Mica I've thought of before but it doesnt appear to have that clear scaley nature that mica has. It's really more like a dust like fine glitter. I believe the first photo I posted with the flash is the best, it shows the gray nature of the rock, and the black sparkley schist.

Looks a lot like the schist along the highway that cuts over the top of the Great Smokey Mountains to me, the green color is what is suggesting that to me, and the mica in it. If it is from the Great Smokey Mountains, it might have really small garnets in it. Nice stone! Would not know why it would end up in Pennsylvania though, but a lot of people carry stones to the far reaches of the world, I know I do!

More information would be helpful. I am from PA and have found similar rocks. Is it heavy for its size? Does it crumble easy of is it solid? Is it magnetic in any way? Where is PA did you find it?
