Coins The coin forum of tnet is your best bet to ask this kind of Q. me, sagitarious, eminem, mackyadon, and the ike man usually do a pretty good job at helping folk with their coin troubles here. and to the prospective onlookers, I advise you to post questions bout grading, coin condition, value here too, unless it ties in with C/R/H'n.
well it looks to be a 1944 Philly made 35% silver "war nickel" in WW2 the us govt replaced the nickel in the "nickel" with silver * those coins have the large letter on the rear - P, S or D depending upon which mint made them.--there were some counterfeit nickles made long ago.
You can often find plated war nickels, along with steel pennies.
Usually the plated ones were sold in sets of "Wartime coinage" where they took some common war nickels and steel pennies and plate them with something so they don't look "green". These coins would be sold to non-collectors at a large premium over the numismatic price.
