Can you make out any thing before the silver 56? And could it be 1856 it has that look? I don't know if they would have abbreviated the year like that? HH

I cant make out anything besides Silver 56 .. Is there a way for me to clean this to see if it says anything.. Maybe pool acid?? I dont think it will hurt the silver

I found a fork that had a very similar look to it. Does yours have what looks a bit like a half moon design at the top of the handle? I think the pattern is called "fiddleback", and several different companies made this pattern. The one I found is from William Rogers and Sons, and it's from around 1865.
