New CRHer. Some areas worse than others?

Hello all,

I have just recently got into CRH and have enjoyed the thrill of searching, hoping for a find. And I can honestly say it has been a good experience. The only problem is...searching is all I have been doing...

I have gone through 15 boxes of halves, and another 10 of dimes.

And the grand total is...0

I was just wondering if certain areas, especially large metropolitan areas, just get a lower return. I mean, i figured I would have stumbled across one coin! :p

Am I missing something here?

No, There is silver everywhere, but some areas are better than others. I'm on the east coast and it seems there are more scores here then where you are. Just keep at it. Someone in your area will eventually cash in a collection and if you are lucky, you will get it. One good thing for you is that you probably have less CRHing competition where you are.
Good luck

Philadelphia sucks for everything but dimes. I know a couple guys down there in Texas who get great scores talking to tellers and roadtripping, you might want to try that.

It is just L-U-C-K. Well, that is my two cents anyway. You never know what will be dumped, when. Just keep plugging along--like the rest of us!

Yes, many areas are worse than others. In my area in Ohio boxes are pretty much 100% skunks. I've never gotten a silver coin from a box. I've gotten them from customer rolls though. I get jealous of people who can go to their local banks and get boxes with silver in them. If it were that easy for me I'd be a happy camper. But life isn't always fair.

As a side note, I also get jealous of people who live in areas where gold can be found in the streams or civil war relics can be found in the fields. Ohio is not such a place.

I reccomend trying pennies... you know a 95% copper penny is worth about 3 pennies in just metal value? Not to mention if it's a wheat penny( which are still fairly common) then it's worth even more. Plus, I've scored ONE indian head cent in a customer wrapped roll.. those are worth at least a dollar or so.

SO yeah, pennies are my favorite.

OH YEAH I just remembered, I scored a 1980 mint error today, I will try to post pic thread later.

Some areas definitely different then others. As time goes on i keep records of what town does what. Some towns have regular collectors ,some towns get no halves and some towns i call silver towns.

Well, I guess I had been, to some point at least, romanticizing the entire ordeal. I always kind of imagined myself popping open my first box of halves and staring down at nothing but silver. :)

Put in an order for 6 more boxes at two different bank branches. Should be coming in some time this week.
I will just keep my fingers crossed.

I will post an update after, and hopefully some pictures of my first silver halves.
Thanx all
