Welcome from NW CT! It won't be long before the ground is thawed although in the heavy woods it is not too frozen to dig now.
Good luck in your new hobby!

Hi Fran; Greetings from Boston. Welcome to TNet. You live in the heart of Colonial Country in this State. Your sitting in a GOLD MINE.!! Look around for the Farms there. Right after they plow the stuff is everywhere literally. Starting in April - May is the best time and again from the end of Sept - Jan when the ground freezes again. Check out the Sub Forums VP Navy Listed above ok. You can hook up with a lot of guys in your area. Best wises. REMEMBER: When posting pictures always show pictures of ALL sides ok. That is one of Our pet peeves. You'll be amazed at how much info we can provide from the simplest details ok. Good Luck. PEACE:RONB

Hi everyone, my name is Fran and I am 69 years old.
I' am new to metal detecting and can't wait for the ground to thaw!
I will be reading a lot of posts and will honor the rules of this forum ,thank you..

Welcome to TNet. Mass guy here (Merrimack Valley/North Shore). There is great stuff to be found. I started detecting seriously in 2012 and can hardly think about anything else. Feel free to click on my YouTube channel if you want to see some examples of stuff that is out there even for the beginner. Good luck!
