I had a chance to play with Equinox 800 today and I can happily vouch for the fact it does find small gold chains using 20 kHz freq, It had no problem seeing a thin 14k herring bone chain. I didn't bury chain real deep, only about 4 inches but it was seeing it with no problem and chain was stretched out straight, not in a ball, tiny clasp and no charm on it. It want replace the 3030 or Etrac but it will certainly have a place in my arsenal.

It is also like the excal in that it sees a gold ring with a piece of iron rebar inside ring if you turn 90° and rescan after the null in desc mode, the iron can also be discriminated out too and see a coin or gold ring under the iron. Earphones on 800 are nice and very comfortable.

I only played with it about 30 mins and wasn't able to take to the beach, maybe next time.

Thanks for posting some first impressions, TH! How was the weight/balance/feel of the detector itself?

The Minelab AR-1500, featuring a 11" x 10" lightweight coil, combining FBS2, and the new AR technology. The machine can REJECT aluminum, while still detecting gold.

Now that's AMAZING!

I am holding off to see videos of the finished product of the detector. I hope it gets released soon so better and longer comparison videos can be posted. I look forward to seeing them....

And when do you think that will be? I have a feeling this post will be in the Tnet Archives before they go live with one. Lol.

We hope it is from the timeframe they originally said, Wasn't it Dec.-Feb.? Wished it was sooner but if I get one I won't be able to water hunt with it until next summer anyway. Now if it competes with the etrac for coins, I will use it inland.

I am hoping for a quicker roll out than XP's latest Deus stuff. That was painfully slow. I was suprised to see them up for sale on all of the major Minelab dealer sites. At this point it seems like tweaking software, it will be updatabe so they don't have to get the firmware totally dialed in before the release.

Won't help me here in Minnesota. That'll give me plenty of time to let you southern boys work out all the kinks, anyway. Thanks ahead of time for that.

Getting my pre-order in later this week
For the Equinox 800. Whether it gets
Shipped by Christmas or not till February I'm hoping for a mild enough
Winter to allow for some woods hunting
As has been possible in winters past.
