Recently found item...on a recent hunt at a old platation home in south louisiana...need help in properly identifying this item...it has a date and markings on the reverse side "PATD Sept 2 1856"
I'm thinking it's a ladies Victorian belt brooch...could not find any other pics of this kind on the internet...
I'm very excited because has a newbie...it's the oldest verified dated item I've ever found...

Very nice find.. and dated on top of that. Congrats sir!

Thanks so much guys...for your comments

Looking forward to being a regular on this site...

Nice find. Its old. But dont mistake the patent date for the manufactured date. But it is as old as pat. Date.
It has nice detailed etching, yeah. Is that paint or enamel over the etching? And is that a pictute of a man or womans face?
Maybe a couple of additional pics. Super place it sounds like to hunt. Best of luck and skull to ya

Congratualtions on the very nice buckle! :occasion14:

CW/Victorian belt buckle

Thanks so much for taking a moment to view my find...there is no paint left on the buckle and the figure etched on the buckle is opposing butterflies...

Welcome to tnet I agree with everyone I like to keep my silver and relics in display cases Looks like you have a great site to hunt hope you find lots more!!!!Thanks for sharing it!!!!!!

I've dug one that is almost exactly like yours but, yours is in much better shape. You need to hunt that area more! After I dug mine, which was in a plowed field, I've gotten six seated liberty half dimes, one seated dime all from the 1840's and a Confederate one piece "I" button over a few years of hunting the same site. Every time the farmer plowed, I hunted. Good luck!

BTW, Welcome to TreasureNet and Thank you for your service as a firefighter!
