Florida's nice, as for jobs it depends on what your looking for and in what area of the state your looking in.

Housing/construction jobs are in the toilet. :-\

Lots of housing right now for those in the market now, definitely a "buyers market".

Lots of good schools if you got kids.

Lots of beaches, good history in some areas. :headbang:

Shall issue CWP and stand your ground law, State law trumps local law~state says you can carry here/here/and here the
local jokers can't say otherwise. :)

Lots of hunting areas and hunting clubs, great fishing too.

Most people are good people here, others need to go back since they like the way they did it there so much! :laughing7:

Hope this helps.

^^^That's the funniest thing I've read in awhile, as long as it isn't loaded~~that's about as useful as a car with
no engine or a D'Tector with no batteries! :laughing7: :laughing7:

I think that is the way California does things, I have never understood that law. I guess if the gun was shaped like a baton it would be okay.

The way i would look at it is.How many people would argue when having a .45 auto pointed at them,is it loaded or not lol. Less than a second to slap a mag in it.You can carry a loaded mag with it,just not in the pistol itself.Thats part is pretty hard to understand also lol.

Let me get this straight (sorry for being OT).......you can open carry an unloaded gun AND you can carry ammo or a loaded magazine? (this is getting worse) If that is correct, could you carry a loaded magazine in the butt of a gun, so long as it was not locked in? When is the gun considered loaded? Is it okay if there isn't a round in battery? This is so dumb.

Wherever the OP decides to move, I would certainly recommend against any of the states that have this incredibly stupid law.

Florida may not be the best choice right now.

No state income tax, and concealed weapons permits are easy to get provided you have no criminal history.

History is good provided you stay in the north part of the State.

But...

Our housing market has taken a beating, we've lost a ton of jobs (about 10% unemployment right now), and for the first time, Florida is actually losing population. Be warned.

Texas has no state tax, although, there is a sales tax on purchases. Plenty of history and, depending on what part of TX you are in, a climate to suit most any preference. We, also, have a concealed carry permit, after a certification process. We are only 0.1% ahead of New York on unemployment, but, still better than the national average......there are jobs here if you are willing to work. You will have to quit saying "yous guys" and learn to say "yall", but, that ain't hard. ;D
GO Tennessee, Im from Georgia..People come on vacation leave on probation return on violation.Good luck Parnell

All of the "natives" here would shoot me for doing this, but if they can hate the Californians, why not the New Yorkers. Colorado sounds like your best bet. There has been a real drop in the housing market, however you can pick up some real deals on property, and the property values bounce back quicker here. If you locate yourself near the ski areas, you can find work, and you have the best of both worlds. You have the advantages of living in a city without being in one, and you can locate yourself so you can hunt off of your back porch. Most places near where I am, (Glewnwood Springs), you can drive ten to fifteen minutes and you are on BLM or Forest Service land which can be thousands of acres. Look at the map. We are surrounded by The White River Nat. Forrest, The Grand Mesa, and The Flat Tops Wilderness Area. There is a regional bus service which covers Aspen downvally to as far as you would want to live. Over in Eagle county, the bus service runs from Vail about fifty miles west, and south to Leadville which is over a stunning ten thousand four hundred foot pass. Where else in the world can you take a bus to work if you want, and hunt within walking distance from your house?

After reading what people are posting here, I have to chime in here again. Yes there is a lot of history along the coast of Texas, but there is just as much, if not more in the northern part of the state. I grew up on the rim of Palo Duro Canyon. Quanah Parker hid the last band of Comanche there for years until the canyon was discovered and the soldiers killed all of the horses they had hidden in the canyon which caused them to have to surrender. The story we were told of how Coronado discovered the canyon was interesting. The Grasses were six feet high at that time and they were marching through at dusk and the first few people fell off of the cliff into the canyon. Hmm, this seems like a good place to camp! The Palo Duro is the second largest canyon in the US. It is 120 miles long and 20 miles across. If you go there and you are interested in history, don't bother to see the play Texas which is shown in the amphitheater there in the summer, they just decided to rewrite history and none of it is factual. Texas is a great place, but I left in 1996 because I did not like the governor and look what happened. I think the Colorado economy will recover from that idiot quicker than the rest of the country. We still have a lot of tourism keeping the flow going.

Greeting all....

My family is in the process of relocating. We have decided to leave NY State due to the lack of work, ridiculously high taxes, and overall high cost of living. Now here is my dilemma. I decided long ago if I were to move from NY... I would want to be in a state and area that would meet several expectations.

The first has to be a state where obtaining a pistol is not nearly as difficult as NY. It is not impossible here but you really need to know someone who knows someone. Second is a place where there is a substantial amount of history. I metal detect every second I get. If I am not detecting I am hunting, fishing or researching. So the area has to be rich in those aspects as well. Last is a area where work is not impossible to find. I am experienced in many areas. I am fairly well versed as a builder....I am a experienced salesman as well. I have been selling cars for years. I am however working for myself as a builder currently.

We have talked about Virginia,North and South Carolina and Florida. If anyone has any suggestions or knows of an area that would meet my needs...(well wants). Please feel free chime in! Thanks everyone. If nothing else have a great SAFE holiday season. Remember... With the holidays comes more traffic..More traffic means more drunk drivers! So please be safe!

I can only tell you how I feel. Most of the Southern states including Virginia, Florida, & The Carolinas have a wonderful and rich history either from major historical events such as "The Civil War" , "Seminole War", or many of the other growing pains that these areas went through such as railroads, river industry, etc. These things are even more important if you are a relic hunter. The coin hunting I feel will be there in any of the states you mentioned. As for the laws of carrying firearms I would google those particular states firearms laws as they will present to you the most current laws and updates.
Employment wise, I can say although there has been an economic recession pretty much nationwide, there will be jobs attainable in the fields you mentioned pretty much in all those states. Think about it, we say how bad everything is and that there is no work or money yet everywhere you look everyone is buying new clothes, new cars, homes, vacations, cruises, going to the casino, etc. Therefore, I feel there will be employment especially in sales. Also, Virginia, Florida, The Carolinas all have beaches and coast line to metal detect. Personally I have chosen Florida due to the climate, wildlife, adventurous and active lifestyles, and the fact that not only is there American history here but visiting sailors/Pirates have littered this place with treasures in water and on land. I feel that there is a huge amount of history and treasures still awaiting to be discovered. :read2:

Good luck to ya,
Bobby

I would say that Virginia would be a great place to move to, it being a Commonwealth. You dig something that has been buried for 148 years and the state takes it claiming Universal Property Rights of The Union. Man that was a pretty brass cannon once you cleaned it up ::)

You can get most of the important info on any city in USA at www.city-data.com They tell stuff like weather, crime rate, unemployment rate, average income, house prices. They even have forums where you can ask just about anything about a particular city or region & you will get plenty of replies.

There are links to city websites but many are wrong so if it doesn't work you can go to Wikipedia. Most major cities & probably every county has a historical society with some useful info on their websites.

In 1880, Florida had well under 300,000 population. Biggest cities Jacksonville at just over 15,000, Key West 10,304. In 1880, NC had 1.4 million people. Largest cities Wilmington 17,361, & Raleigh, about 14,000. VA had 1.5 million with largest cities Richmond 63,803, & Norfolk, about 30,000. SC had about a million people, Charleston, about 50,000 & Columbia 10,040. Best wishes, George (MN)
