Met up with Carson_wreckmaster (Joe) after over a year and he took me out to a really cool old ghost town. The weather was perfect, previous rain a few days before so the ground was perfect digging. Unfortunately didn't find much of value but I did find my FIRST Square nail, and then another and another. The MXT picked up every piece of tin and there was a ton of it. Joe found the find of the day...an old belt buckle with the words "Golden Gate" on it. Hope everyone enjoys the photos as much as I enjoyed taking them. Thanks Joe for a perfect day !!!!

Thanks to all on TNet who offered help on my coil selection and provided research source data for the trip. the DD coil really does go deep and pinpointing was dead center. working on photos of my finds ...will post this weekend.

Beautiful pics! What a landscape. Look like you had a great time. I would be curious also what kind of rocks those were they mined. That golden gate relic is really neat, too.

Not really sure what they were mining there...story has it there was hope of gold, but the town was only in existence a few years ...no records to indicate anything of substance was found...thats why the town disappeared as quickly as it did. there were several rebirths later around the turn of the century but no idea as to what if anything was found. All I know is there was a TON of tin all over the place..... ran my MXT nuts !!!! I just set it to Prospecting mode and dug the non ferrous signals. Tons of nails...and I do mean TONS !!!! modern and square. Too bad we can't go back in time ...we all would have a hay day !!!!

hey buddy, the pics came out great! I should have taken a few more than I did. I look like a total dweeb in a bottled water comercial lol. :tongue3: next time you come out we should go to a diferent town. I'll do my research on what else is close by and has some history. Maybe I could take some extra days off from work. good seeing ya and nice pics.

Awesome pics. Thanks for sharing. It would be neat to check out the old mine...I know, I know...snakes, gases, and other terrible things in mines...There could be gold there.

Hey guys,
Here's a little tip. When you are doing your research, the more desolate, hard to find, no roads, etc.
the better. I saw in your pic's, if there is a good road leading right to the spot, chances are it's had
a few coils (if not many) on the ground already. You might have to wade through all of that sheet roofing tin to find a goody or two. In the place you show in the pic's, you might want to wander outside of the
main areas, to try to find a foundation or two that might have been missed. I have generally had more
luck at the places that were hard to get to. Might have to pack in a mile or two, but it can be well worth it.
Good luck on your research, and I hope you find a bunch!

Thanks everyone for the nice comments. Joe and I had a blast. Just so much area to cover and not enough time to get to it all. But still, the best day ever to get out detecting and history galore !!

Thanks again Joe for your hospitality and kindness. Let's do this again !!! Next time we will stay in Reno.
