I went today for a very long walk to a site in Greenwich NJ I've never hunted before. I have been in my old lakes almost every day picking away at some junk rings, clad, a few older nickles and newer silver coins. I only stayed on the dirt road at this large wooded area, doing the right hand side of the road going in then the other side going out. I was in the woods about four hours. Good day for it, about 75 and the humidity was not quite so bad. Going in I found this strange copper/brass "whatsit". Not sure what to call it.

If anyone has a proper ID for this please feel free to chime in?
Here is the group shot

On the way back I heard a nice sound that I almost passed up thinking it was another shotgun headstamp. I actually took about four steps and thought I must be really tired to pass up an target in that number range, thinking to myself, how many Spanish Reals have I found that sound and number like that. Out pops this 32 mm copper from about 10 inches down in that South Jersey glass sand. One look at it and seeing the detail and the Latin I knew it had to be something old good. Can't wait till it's cold enough to kill the ticks and chiggers, I'll be back in there often.

Here are a bunch of pix of my water finds from my two lakes that I like to hunt up to my neck in. These are from the last few weeks.

Great to see you posting Brad :icon_thumleft: Looks like you've been busy man. I really like that odd brass piece and the ring with the R. I dug one of those weird buttons about 23 years ago... mine if obviously some sort of modern junk button though.

Super finds, Treble. Is it possible that the strange brass piece is a pocket good luck token or maybe a hand made game piece? I see a crude broadsword design. "Sword of God," etc... Sub 8-)

Clearly modern cast trying to look crude & old. Made to look like its been incised (carved) but its not. So I think your guess seems pretty good.

Thanks Brad, last winter ruined me, I need more old stuff, when I found that pillar and globes I want everything like that now. Haaaaa lol

It almost reminds me of a smashed penny, It might be copper, not sure. I of course have not seen anything like it. I'm thinking along the same lines now that my initial adrenaline rush has subsided 24 hrs later, lol

One more piling on with a big congrats,
very nice pieces...
Thank you

Congrats on your awesome finds of all types! :icon_thumright: You are blessed with variety! We should all be so lucky but we take what we can get from our particular areas and travel to find those not available in ours. The only thing is the limited time we have when we have to travel...

Nice digs Brad! You're living the dream. I wish I could wake up and say, "hmmmm, should I go fishing or detecting today?" All the while sitting on my back porch;)

Cheers bud

Hello treblehunter. Those are some very nice finds...makes me wanna take up water hunting. Thanks for the post and Good Luck. C9
Should be an interesting weekend, we are supposed to get hit with a summertime Nor'easter, supposedly first in 20 yrs. I believe that is what I read on FB of all places, I'm planning on hitting the shore and see if there are any cuts created by this. I love water hunting, I'm usually in a couple lakes nearby, the surf is another animal. Couple years back I got caught in a rip tide, I float like a cork so I just signaled to the life guards and went for a ride with scoop in hand and detector. I'll wait until Tuesday for the surf to calm down before I go in the water. They already predicted bad rip tides. Thanks Cambria

I live in a great area and I'm retired, life is good even when I don't find anything, thank you and HH & GL
