I have recently started to go over a local park that I have spent a lot of time at in the past. It has been well hunted and I have made a few friendships with other detectorists. I have learned that if I dig some of the pull tabs that are found throughout the area, I may find something unexpected. Over the weekend, I found something completely unexpected.

After already filling one of my pockets full of trash, I heard an intermittent high-pitched signal mixed with a lot of mid-tone signals. I pulled the plug and I found a larger coin crusted with dirt. My first thought was that it was just another Mexican peso. As I rubbed a little dirt off, I saw an eagle! Under the crust, I found a 1908 Barber 50 cent piece! Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised.

It is nice to know that some of these coins are still waiting to be found. image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

Congrats on finding a BIG SILVER. There is a lot of detail under that crud, it was dropped when fairly new.

Clean it up and show us some pics (coin porn).

The coin was about 6 inches deep.

Yes, Mexican pesos do have eagles, but not like a Barber. Lol, I will do better with my future titles.

What a beauty! I have never found a silver half. My wife dug a Walker, and I almost divorced her....

Congrats on the sweet Barber Half. :occasion14: I would be inclined to use the baking soda, boiling water and aluminum foil method of cleaning that coin.

Nice find. What part of Az are you located in? I occupy Apache Junction for 6 months in the winter.
