"Not One Cent" Large Cent and a few more old LC's

A friend of mine brought me out to one of his new spots today. I felt bad, as I was the one in the sweet zone. 6 coins for me, none for him. I'm sure he'll go back and pound it now. :laughing7: We both found a musketball, some small buttons and some buckles that we gave to the old farmer.

Here's the coins. Refresh to resize my pics... if they're skewed. :)

"Not One Cent" US Large Cent. Counter-stamped? There is also a bit of writing I can't make out under "Cent"

New Brunswick One Penny Token

New Brunswick Half Penny Token

"Payable by Carritt & Alfort?" Half Penny Token

Toasted 1840's Token

Another toasted copper... This one is thinner than the others.

Bull nose ring and fishing weight

Happy hunting!

It's a hard times token. Probably has a date of 1837 on the front if you look hard enough. Nice find!

Thanks for the ID man! I was scratching my head... I'll try and get a date off of it. The obverse is toasted.

The token machine is running fine! lol

You are finding a lot of the typical coins and tokens we enjoy finding in some of our sites from the same era, I particularly enjoy the variety from that time. Because of the scarcity of small change coins in circulation at that time ,everything and anything was used and tended to be lost as well.
Once again, good going Gio! Your streak continues

That's kind of what I was saying too. I believe I can see the letters "UT" on the reverse, just under the "CENT".

Very nice!

Thanks, ironhorse! I too love finding coins from that era. If only a few more silver would show up! :laughing7:

The saying on the back of the coin (hard times token) is:
Millions for defense not one cent for tribute. These were issued during Andrew Jackson's administration. 1837 should be the date

Well it's been my experience that I could dig over a hundred coppers before a silver shows up (from the same era) I hope you fare out better with the odds

I hope so too, but I doubt it. :) Looking at my older coins here... that seems about right. They kept those silver ones close!

Good hunt, and variety. don't always or often come away with a half dozen coppers in a hunt.

Agree with IH, in that the variety of old coppers and tokens keep it interesting. I really like the Halifax merchant token (breton #881) it's one I haven't dug yet.

My silver to copper ratio is going a little better than 1 in 100, this year so far 3 silver (1783 half real, 1817 six pence, 1862 NB 10 cents) to 65 coppers. Last year 3 old silvers (1758 2R for one) to 49 coppers. With lots of time left I do expect a couple of more this year.
