I just joined a few days ago after I received a Bounty Hunter IV for Christmas. Day before yesterday I used it in the yard a little and found some junk, a washer and button, then hit on a large metal something. Today my husband helped me dig it up. It turned out to be an old enameled pan with some old local bottles and chunks of an oily cheesecake colored substance that my 86 year old grandma thinks was most likely soap. Not much but the bottles are kind of neat and I'm pretty tickled for my first find!

Two light bottles are labeled with local central PA towns, metal cap is Heinz- I'm guessing pre WWII?

It is possible, as a very large drainage ditch runs along our property. I found these about 10 yds back. Unfortunately, they were right on the edge of my paved driveway.

Thanks for the warm welcome :hello:.... I think it may become something of an addiction. Now I can hardly wait for all the snow to melt so I can check the rest of the property!

littleredhen,
Welcome and yes detecting can become an addiction as well as just something to do that is calm and peaceful. 'Some' old bottles are quite valuable, I believe there is a bottle section here on Tnet so you might be able to get some information on the ones you have. Wait till the day you find your first gold, then the hobby will really kick in..........63bkpkr
