Old "find" being parted with!!! Ancient Greek Athenian Owl

I thought I would post this before it goes... 15 years ago I purchased a small lot of ancient Greek coins from a friend of a friend who inherited them. 10 coins total.. I ended up selling off 8 of them on ebay.. after recouping my investment and making a huge profit.. I kept two.. this one and one other.. I decided to go ahead and sell this sooo.. here are the pictures before it goes..

It is a Attica, Athens Silver Tetradrachm from 449 - 423 BC an "Athenian Owl" as most people know them by.. very clean.. no damage... no test cuts... so I count this as a "find" because of how much I paid per coin in the lot and how much they all turned out to be worth when I sold them off years later.. out of the 10.. I ended up getting almost as much as I paid for the entire lot from one of the rarer coins!!

Enjoy!!

That is quite a coin--and in spectacular condition. I'm sure it will fetch a nice price since it would be a welcome addition to any ancient coin collection. Thank you for sharing this one.

:o that is one crisp looking coin very nice what do you think it will bring?

It was appraised at $775 12 years ago... sooo I hope more then that... but who knows? I set a pretty high reserve on it.. so if it does not.. I will tuck it back in it's spot and wait another 12 years ;-) What made me decide to try and sell it is that I had not even pulled them out and looked at them in years.. my collecting interest have changed but still just a incredible coin..

Re: Old "find" being parted with!!! Ancient Greek Athenian Owl **UPDATE**

The final hammer strike on the coins was $910. So... less then expected but still not too bad... sorry to see her go!
