Old firehose brass fitting

Found this old firehose (brass?) coupler here in West Chester Oh.
"8-51" is stamped in the ring which I guess is the date. As you can see I'm in the process of cleaning it up.

Surprisingly I found one just like that a few weeks ago. It blew my ears off.
