Took last Friday off from work to clear my mind.

Life has been a bit crazy. I lost my grandmother about 3 weeks ago & my Dad is in the ICU, so needless to say it was nice to get out.

Hit the house again where I got the CW token & pulled up this nice gold cuff link. Says: The Benedict. Pat Aug 1786. That was it for that site, so I literally drove up the street to another site & got the IH & the buckle clasp. I'm pretty sure it's colonial, perhaps it was for a shoe?

Hope everyone had a chance to get out before the snow,
Roger

hope your dad recovers quick. sorry about your loss. I think this must be why God gave us hobbies, sometimes we need to zone out and get a little peace, by forgetting the world around us.

Nice little cufflink you found there! :icon_thumright:

The actual patent is Aug. 17. '86. As in 1886. That style of cufflink is late 19th century.

The center chape from a shoe buckle is a good candidate for 1786 though.

The little gold collar or cuff button was patented by Read Benedict of West Brighton, New York, on August 17, 1886.

CC Hunter is correct. I will post a picture later, but in 2009 I dug the silver version while stationed in NY... I believe mine reads "Benedict Bros pat. August 17.86" or something close to that. Very nice find! :headbang:
