Not really........a permit is needed to detect in NYC, and only on parks and beaches designated in the permit.......wildlife shore areas fall under the jurisdiction of the Gateway National Recreation Area's control and their penalties and fines can be really stiff, not to mention confiscation of your detector and car.....but I will research the old oyster bed areas to see where they were located.......my guess is that they were located where the beach areas are now.
