Old Token & Wheat 50,400 ?

NOTE: Today I cleaned the token. Please see the photos below. Let me know what you think the 50,400 means.

I really wanted to find something old today after the keys find this morning up at the wheel tree.

So I went out after supper and dug these two out past where I found the goodies I posted yesterday.

1. 1937 D Wheat
2. Token - Unknown GOOD FOR 25 cents

It was a GOOD day but I'm pooped! ;D

Here it is after electrolysis and a little mineral oil soak.

What does that number 50,400 represent? Any ideas?

Thanks Badger

Thanks gypsy.

Can you send me the link to the ebay post or give me the key search words? For some reason I can't find it.

It's probably just a common merchant trade token. I like these when they feature some local business.

Thanks,

Badger

Re: Old Token & Wheat 50,400 ?

Holed tokens of this type, with the "bowtie" ornament, were used in slot machines between WWI and WWII. Most carried some sort of wording-- IN TRADE, IN MDSE., AMUSEMENT ONLY, etc.— intended to get around local gambling laws forbidding winners from redeeming tokens for cash. (Yeah, right!) Usually, the number stamped on the token is the serial number of the machine in which it was used; however, in some cases it may have identified the location or owner.

Re: Old Token & Wheat 50,400 ?

If it turns out to be from the 1800's, then 25 cents seems like that would kind of made it a high dollar token for back then. Cool find!! HH

Re: Old Token & Wheat 50,400 ?

I have one ALMOST Exactly like it.

But Mine says 50,100

MARK PARKER

I.D. 'd it as 1930's Slot machine Token.

Value Still 25 Cents

Re: Old Token & Wheat 50,400 ?

Thanks PBK & Jeff.

The number 50,400 must then identify the store. This type of thing would require some sort of store ID.

Now, all I have to do is find a reference book giving me the store numbers.

Thanks to everyone who posted.
