I dug this a couple hours ago and did not even realize what I had! I sent a pic to amember of this forum and he ID'd it for me!!! Imagine my surprise! This is the second rare US colonial copper that I have dug from this certain field...not too bad for not being in the US!

The condition actually look decent but I could use a good conservative cleaning. I am going through the Web trying to nail down the variety. It is 1788 with a misaligned left facing bust. Any ideas?

I'll try to get some better pics tomorrow...when I took the pictures I thought it was just another crusty copper! I also found the tiny fancy button. Thanks for looking!

Cleaned up a little...it really looks much better in hand...I suck at taking good close ups..but at least I can read the bust side now...and much more detail on the reverse.

Man I would love to just hold that bad boy in my hand. Just think where all it has been and seen. Awesome find.

Very nice, Connecticut coppers are among my favorite. Gotta ask though, what do you mean by misaligned bust?

A misaligned bust means that the obverse does not line up with the reverse of the coin.
OK, gotcha, misaligned dies are pretty common on most varieties of Connecticut coppers. I don't think it will help in attributing it. Don knows his Connecticuts, if anybody is going to attribute it here he will!

Nice going on the copper! It is in pretty good shape considering the CT coppers are very prone to corrosion!

Romeo, go to this link and see if this coin matches:
http://www.coinfacts.com/colonial_c...coppers/1787_ct_copper_miller_37.01_cc.01.htm

It is close, not sure of exact match, but does put it as a 1787.

1787 M.37.1-cc.1

Don

Good call...that's it! Thanks for the ID Don! I only wish it was in better condition...

Yes, just close.

Keep hunting down more Miller 37s. I am very sure it is not 1-cc.1. I'm guessing the others might not be so easy to find a picture of. Still a chance this is a good one!
